The new President-Elect will give a weekly speech to the nation (read digital nation) a la FDR fireside chat. It’s a great way to reach out to those who don’t get their news via traditional outlets (me, included). I never did know where to find or who carried the President’s weekly radio message.
It feels much more intimate.

A great modern minimalist desk from Jonas &Jonas that could easily resist my kid, Jake the Destroyer, a 15-month old, for easily 15 seconds. He would then be crying, the dog would be eating any food I had hidden on the desk and his mother would be discussing my bad judgment in buying it in the first place.
But nice for apartments without Kid Jake.

Harrison Ford is 66. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it? But, he looks like my grandfather. I knew he probably shouldn’t be playing romantic leads, but good gracious — he looks to old to be a cop.

Want to blog? Want to work 14 hours a day during the week and 9 on weekends? You can make $30k a year.
Kimberly Palmer on her U.S. News blog, Alpha Consumer, finds blogging to be a hard part-time job. She highlights four bloggers at different phases of their career and finds from “The Beginner” making nothing - bupkis, to what she calls “The Success Story”, Steve Pavlina, making “in the five figures” a month lies “The Full-Timer”, Lazy Man and Money who works the 14 hours a day on weekdays and nine hours on Saturday and Sunday and expects to make $30,000 from his blog this year — hard work for a lazy man.
If you’re thinking of quitting your day job for the riches of blogging, read the article for aversion therapy.

Over here at MyGolem, we’re proud to welcome our new sibling website, EnquiringMimes. The folks over at EnquingMimes believe “today’s master skill is understanding and being able to use technology to get things done, ” and that if you are over 27, you’re playing catch up. Not just baby boomers, we all need help sometimes figuring it all out. EnquiringMimes aims to be your guide to the technology you really need on issues like these:
- How to edit an image?
- Whether you really have to use Microsoft Office?
- How’s the best way to keep a to-do list?
- What’s Linux and why might I possibly need it?
- How do I set up a wireless network at home?
- Skype, hmmm, do I really have to pay for long distance?
- What do I do with all these digital pictures?
- What’s the easiest way to sell all that semi-junk in the garage?
- What do I do with my records, cassettes, CDs?
Give them a look.

Online calendar apps tend to have clunky interfaces that require multiple steps to make an entry. Presdo is a deceptively simple site that allows you to describe a meeting in plain English like “Lunch with Sandra Wednesday” and Presdo will interpret and give you a screen to modify, if necessary, its interpretation.
You can also either enter where you want to meet or ask Presdo for a local list of appropriate restaurants and coffee shops. Presdo will allow you to send invitations and will save your calendar entry in your Outlook, Google Calendar, iCal or Yahoo.
The Presdo founder is Eric Ly, co-founder of LinkedIn and their first chief technology officer. He has bootstrapped Presdo with $35k of his own money and has written most of the code himself. Presdo is available for free.

Too Cool Not to Own
Filed Under Gadgets, Productivity | Comments

Being a boy-type and not a very young one, I’ve played with a lot of toys. If you use a digital camera, this one is just too cool (and useful) not to own.
The concept is simple — it’s a 2GB SD card for your camera that also knows how to communicate using Wi-Fi — so when you walk into your home after a day of clicking, the card will automatically securely upload your pictures to your computer and if you like it will also put the pictures on Flickr or your favorite photo sharing/social network.
Couldn’t be better from a productivity perspective, it eliminates an annoying and time-consuming aspect of taking digital pictures.

I liked Bill Clinton. He seemed reasonable. I defended him for 8 years in the White House and 8 years as an ex-President.
He was the Democratic president of my adulthood.
I didn’t want him impeached. I wished he had told the truth about Monica, but he was a guy.
Now he’s been highly visibly supporting his wife for president and I don’t like him. I want him to go away. I want to pretend that I never liked him.
Now I have to start defending Jimmy Carter.
